Well known in Japan as Soba Cha, the nutritious seeds of the tartary buckwheat plant are roasted to give a nutty and warm flavor tea. People have been touting the extraordinary health benefits of this drink. Buckwheat tea is known to help to control blood sugar, appitite (lose weight), stress, high blood pressure, and cholesterol. Tartary buckwheat contains a bioflavonoid called rutin, and research suggest it contains 100 times more compared to common buckwheat. Rutin helps to strengthen capillaries as well as helps to fight off free radicals.
Suggested Use
Use 5g per 250ml of hot water. Steeping time: 3-5 minutes.
Making Buckwheat Tea using a teapot
-
Add 10 grams (about 1 tablespoon) of buckwheat into an empty and clean glass teapot.
-
Add 500ml of hot water and cover the teapot with the lid. Preferably use a teapot with infuser so that it is easier to remove the buckwheat.
- Let the buckwheat steep inside the teapot for 3 minutes to get the perfect infusion. Feel free to adjust the duration based on own preference. Buckwheat is good for about 3 steeps, but if you reduce the steeping time you might get a few more brews.
Store in a cool, dry place.
